The four district winners
Helsinki is split into four zones, and each zone has one winner: the venue whose Instagram earns the strongest and steadiest response from its own audience. The ring shows the VenueScore out of 100.
Highest score in Helsinki. Its typical photo post draws 5.7% of followers, 13 times what the city curve predicts for an account of 19,000, and it posts three times a week.
Photos land at 4.2 times and Reels at 4.5 times the size norm, with no giveaway posts in the window and one of the steadiest feeds among the winners.
A classic Töölö restaurant with 3,700 followers and engagement 2.9 times the norm for its size, posted more than twice a week with few weak posts.
The smallest winner at 1,500 followers. Its Reels reach 5.4% of followers, 4.3 times what accounts of its size typically get.
Helsinki city top 10
All 251 accounts are scored on one city-wide scale, so the district lists can also be merged into a single table. This is the city top 10.
| # | Venue | Zone | Followers | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Friends & Brgrs@friendsandbrgrs · Kluuvi | South & Central | 19,208 | 92.2 |
| 2 | Savoy@savoyhelsinki · Kaartinkaupunki | South & Central | 11,236 | 91.2 |
| 3 | Restaurant Villa Severino - Helsinki Outlet@villa_severino_finland · Suurmetsä | East Helsinki | 3,885 | 90.5 |
| 4 | Restaurant Elite@ravintolaelite · Etu-Töölö | West & Northwest | 3,699 | 89.1 |
| 5 | Ravintola Palace@palacehelsinki · Kaartinkaupunki | South & Central | 14,349 | 86.3 |
| 6 | Helkatti Cat Cafe@catcafehelkatti · Kamppi | South & Central | 13,084 | 85.5 |
| 7 | Paulette@paulettehelsinki · Ullanlinna | South & Central | 2,477 | 85.2 |
| 8 | Ravintola Maritori@maritori_helsinki · Herttoniemi | East Helsinki | 4,155 | 85.1 |
| 9 | Beer Restaurant Oljenkorsi@baroljenkorsi · Toukola | Kallio & North Central | 1,523 | 84.5 |
| 10 | Banu Café@banu.cafe · Länsisatama | South & Central | 8,227 | 84.0 |
Two things stand out. The list puts a 1,500-follower beer restaurant and a cat cafe next to two fine-dining institutions and a burger chain, and no account in it has more than 20,000 followers. And all four zones are represented, including East Helsinki, where fewer than a quarter of venues have an Instagram at all. Six of the ten come from South & Central.
Special award: The Quiet Climb
The district titles go to the accounts that are strongest today. This one goes to the account that got better while we were watching, and did it the hard way: no giveaways, no single post that took off, just a feed that kept improving week after week.
Ekeko Restobar is a small restaurant account in Sörnäinen with fewer than 1,200 followers. In the first half of our 90-day window its steady engagement rate was 0.91%. In the second half it was 3.72%, four times higher. The weaker posts moved with it: the floor of the feed went from 0.25% to 2.20%. That is the difference between a real climb and one lucky hit. None of it comes from contests, and the best tenth of posts in each half is thrown out before we count.
Anyone can spike once. Raising the level of an ordinary Tuesday post is craft: better pictures, better timing, a clearer idea of who is on the other side of the screen. So this is the award for the person who actually runs the account, and it is the one a restaurant with a thousand followers can take from a hotel chain.
It is also the hardest title here to qualify for. Of the ranked accounts, 214 had no giveaway or authenticity flags, only 24 had posted at least six times in each half of the window, and five showed real growth.
| # | Venue | First 45 days | Last 45 days | Growth |

| 1 | Ekeko Restobar@ekeko_restobar | 0.91% | 3.72% | ×4.09 |
| 2 | Itsuyaki Itis@itsuyakisuomi | 0.57% | 1.10% | ×1.93 |
| 3 | Iisi Bistro@iisivallisaari | 0.69% | 0.80% | ×1.16 |
| 4 | HelmiSimpukka@helmisimpukkavirallinen | 0.40% | 0.73% | ×1.82 |
| 5 | Ravintola Kokki@stadinao | 0.30% | 0.68% | ×2.30 |
Why these accounts won
The score answers one narrow question: does this venue's Instagram get a real response from the people who follow it, and is the account actually being run? It has two blocks with fixed weights: results, 80%, and stability, 20%. Stability splits in half between how regularly the account posts and how even its results are.
- 80% ResultsHow strongly a typical post lands, compared with what is normal for an account of that size in Helsinki.
- 10% Stability: posting regularityWhether the account is being run now: a post in the last 30 days and a steady weekly pace.
- 10% Stability: evenness of resultsWhether the weaker posts hold up too, or the average is carried by a few spikes.
The block that matters most is Results, and the key idea in it is that raw engagement rates are never compared across account sizes. A 2,000-follower account at 1.5% and a 20,000-follower account at 1.5% are not doing equally well, because engagement falls as accounts grow. So each account is compared with the curve of what is typical for its size across Helsinki.
Friends & Brgrs is the clearest case. An account with 19,000 followers in this city typically gets a response from about 0.44% of followers on a photo post. Friends & Brgrs gets 5.7%, thirteen times the expected level, and it holds that level on its weaker posts too. Oljenkorsi wins Kallio & North Central with 1,523 followers for the same reason at the other end of the scale: its Reels reach 5.4% of followers where 1.3% would be normal.
An award you cannot enter, and cannot skip
Most marketing awards work the same way. A venue or its agency fills in an entry form, often pays a fee, and a jury or a public vote decides. That design measures who applied, who has a budget for a case video, and who has the most friends willing to click. It says little about the quiet neighbourhood place whose social media simply works.
As far as we know, this is the first restaurant social media award in Helsinki that removes all of that.
What it rewards is the actual outcome of social media work: whether followers respond. That is why the result is fully reproducible. Take any account in the tables, open its last three months of posts, apply the formulas in the methodology, and you should land on the same number.
Why the award is measured on Instagram
The title says social media and the measurement is Instagram. That is a deliberate narrowing, and it should be said out loud: Instagram is the one network that the largest number of Helsinki restaurants actually use.
521 of the 1,114 venues link an Instagram account from their own website, ahead of Facebook at 478. TikTok follows far behind with 112 venues (10%), then LinkedIn with 56, YouTube with 33, X with 24, WhatsApp with 10 and Pinterest with 4. 511 venues (46%) link no social network at all.
The networks also overlap heavily. 407 venues link both Instagram and Facebook, and 105 of the 112 venues on TikTok have an Instagram as well. Of the 603 venues with any social link, 86% have Instagram. A ranking built on any other network would leave most of the field out.
There is a practical reason too. Instagram shows likes, comments and dates for every post in public, in the same form for every account, which is what makes a like-for-like comparison possible. So wherever this article says "best social media", read it as best on Instagram. A restaurant that is strong only on TikTok or Facebook gets no credit for it here.
The four zones
Comparing a Kluuvi hotel restaurant with a Kontula pizzeria on one list tells nobody anything useful, so the awards are given by area. We grouped the neighbourhoods of Helsinki into four large zones that locals would recognise: the centre, Kallio and the inner north, the west, and the east.
Schematic, not to scale. Darker tile = larger share of venues with an Instagram account linked from their website. Tap a zone to jump to its top 10.
| Zone | Neighbourhoods | Venues | With Instagram | Ranked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| South & Central Helsinki | Kluuvi, Katajanokka, Kruununhaka, Kaartinkaupunki, Kamppi, Punavuori, Eira, Ullanlinna, Kaivopuisto, Hernesaari, Jätkäsaari, Ruoholahti, Suomenlinna | 399 | 62% | 139 |
| Kallio & North Central | Kallio, Alppiharju, Harju, Sörnäinen, Hermanni, Vallila, Kumpula, Toukola, Suvilahti, Kalasatama, Pasila, Alppila | 230 | 50% | 54 |
| West & Northwest Helsinki | Töölö, Etu-Töölö, Taka-Töölö, Meilahti, Laakso, Ruskeasuo, Munkkiniemi, Munkkivuori, Lauttasaari, Haaga, Pohjois-Haaga, Etelä-Haaga, Pitäjänmäki, Konala, Kaarela, Pakila, Käpylä, Oulunkylä, Koskela, Maunula | 201 | 47% | 35 |
| East Helsinki | Herttoniemi, Siilitie, Kulosaari, Laajasalo, Tammisalo, Roihuvuori, Marjaniemi, Itäkeskus, Myllypuro, Vartiokylä, Malmi, Pukinmäki, Tapanila, Suutarila, Puistola, Kontula, Vesala, Mellunmäki, Vuosaari, Rastila, Östersundom, Viikki, Vartiosaari | 284 | 23% | 23 |
| Helsinki total | 1,114 | 47% | 251 |
The scoring scale is calibrated once for the whole city, and the top 10 is then cut inside each zone. Scores are therefore comparable between zones, but a district title means "best in this zone", not "this zone is better than that one". East Helsinki has far fewer qualifying accounts for its size, and its list gets thin after the first few places.

Helsinki restaurant Instagram in numbers
The same dataset doubles as a benchmark for anyone running a restaurant account in Helsinki. These are the figures we would want on the wall.
Fewer than half of Helsinki restaurants link an Instagram
Of 1,114 venues, 944 (85%) have a website and 521 (46.8%) link an Instagram account from it. The share differs sharply from one part of the city to another.
The gap between the centre and the east is close to threefold. In South & Central Helsinki more than three venues in five have an Instagram; in East Helsinki it is fewer than one in four. For a restaurant in the east this is an opening: the local field is nearly empty.
Venues with an Instagram also have more of a footprint on Google: a median of 419 reviews against 219 for venues without one, while their average rating is almost identical (4.36 against 4.31).
Half of the accounts fail a low bar
Having an account and running an account are different things. 29% of restaurant Instagram accounts in Helsinki have fewer than 1,000 followers, and another 16% posted fewer than eight times in three months.
Most accounts are small
The engagement benchmark: 0.7% on photos, 1.0% on Reels
Reels beat photos in every size band, and inside individual accounts too: in 113 of the 180 accounts that post both formats (63%), the typical Reel out-engages the typical photo. The dip at 5,000–10,000 followers and the recovery above 10,000 is why the ranking uses a size curve and separate spread estimates per size band, not a simple "smaller is better" rule.
How often restaurants post
The median ranked account posts 1.6 times a week. 35% post at least twice a week and have posted in the last 30 days; 62% post between once a fortnight and twice a week; 3% have gone quiet for more than a month.
The accounts that post most often get the least response per post. That does not mean posting less is a strategy, but it does mean volume on its own is not one either.
Giveaways are everywhere
160 of 251 ranked accounts (64%) published at least one post in 90 days that reads as a giveaway or comment bait, and for the median account such posts make up 8% of the feed. For 27 accounts (11%) they make up more than a quarter, which caps their score at 50.
Methodology
This section is the full method. It is long on purpose: the claim that the award is transparent only holds if a marketer or analyst can reproduce it.
- 1Find the venues1,114 restaurants and cafes on Google Maps, searched district by district.
- 2Place the chainsA chain with one shared Instagram competes once, in the district of its most-reviewed location.
- 3Find the InstagramEach venue's own website is crawled for its social links. 521 venues link an Instagram.
- 4Read 90 days of postsLikes, comments, Reels views and dates for every public account: 4,168 posts.
- 5FilterAt least 1,000 followers, 8 dated posts in the window, public account.
- 6Score and rankOne city-wide calibration, then a top 10 inside each zone.
1. The sample
We collected restaurants and cafes from Google Maps for every district of Helsinki: 1,114 venues across the four zones. For each venue we went through its own website and picked up the social links. The list of accounts was frozen before any score was calculated.
Where chains compete. A chain usually runs one Instagram for all its locations, so it appears in the ranking once, in the district of the location with the most Google reviews. That is why KFC appears once, in East Helsinki, where its most-reviewed branch in Itäkeskus is. The review count is a simple public signal of which branch is the most prominent, and it means nobody hand-picks a flagship.
2. Eligibility
| Rule | Why |
|---|---|
| Window: last 90 days, up to 48 posts | Long enough for stable medians, recent enough to describe the account as it is run today. |
| At least 1,000 followers | Below that, likes from staff and friends dominate and the numbers are noise. |
| At least 8 dated posts in the window | Fewer posts make medians and quartiles unstable. |
| Public account | A private account cannot be compared on public metrics. |
| One Instagram = one place in the ranking | A chain competes in one district only, not once per branch. |
251 venue accounts passed (249 unique accounts in the calibration set). Excluded accounts are not given a place; they simply lack enough data.
3. Results (80%)
For every post, photos, carousels and Reels alike, we compute a comment-weighted engagement rate against followers:
The comment weight w is not chosen by hand. It is the ratio of median likes to median comments across the city's posts, which came out at w = 31: in aggregate, comments count as much as likes, and one comment is worth 31 likes. The cap at the post's own like count stops a flood of replies from inflating a post.
An account's engagement is then the average of its median post and its lower-quartile post, separately for photos and Reels:
The median is the typical post; the lower quartile is the floor of the feed. To score well, the weaker quarter of posts has to hold up as well. One contest post or one viral Reel barely moves either number.
Giveaway posts are excluded. A post is treated as bait if its caption contains giveaway markers in Finnish or English (arvonta, voita, kilpailu, tägää, merkitse kaveri, kommentoi, giveaway, tag a friend, win), or if its comment-to-like ratio is more than three times the account's own median and above the city's 90th percentile. Such posts still count as activity for posting regularity, but not for engagement. If they exceed 25% of the window, the total score is capped at 50.
Size adjustment. Across all eligible accounts we fit a robust line (Theil–Sen) of ln(ER) on ln(followers), separately for photos and Reels. For photos the slope is −0.20 and for Reels −0.35: a tenfold larger account has about 37% lower photo engagement and 55% lower Reel engagement. Each account's distance from that line is divided by the spread (MAD) within its follower tertile and turned into a 0–100 percentile. Photo and Reel percentiles are combined 55 / 45.
So an account with 10,000 followers and 1.3% is not compared with a 1,500-follower account at 4%. It is compared with what 10,000-follower restaurant accounts in Helsinki normally get.
4. Stability, part one: posting regularity (10%)
Stability is the second block of the score, worth 20% in total, and it has two equal halves. The first guards against the showcase account that built an audience years ago and stopped posting. It has four levels: 100 for a post in the last 30 days and at least two posts a week; 70 for a recent post and at least one post a fortnight; 50 for a recent post at a slower pace; 20 for no post in 30 days.
5. Stability, part two: evenness of results (10%)
The second half guards against spikes. Evenness is the ratio of the lower-quartile post to the median post, P25 / median, turned into a city percentile. A high value means the floor of the feed sits close to the typical post. A low value means peaks and troughs.
6. Anomaly caps
Authenticity is not a weight, because it cannot be measured precisely from public data. Instead, flags limit the maximum score: gross anomalies (far more comments than likes together with odd view counts) cap the score at 25; an engagement rate more than two deviations above the size curve with almost no comments caps it at 50; a giveaway-heavy feed caps it at 50. Seven accounts were flagged as suspect in this edition.
7. Fairness checks
A size-adjusted score should not correlate with size. We test that and publish the result, including where it falls short.
- City-wide: Spearman ρ between score and followers is 0.05 across 246 accounts, inside the target of |ρ| < 0.15.
- By zone: South & Central 0.07, Kallio & North Central 0.04, West & Northwest 0.06 and East −0.07. All four are inside the target.
- Top 10 by size band: the city top 10 holds two accounts from the smallest third, three from the middle and five from the largest. The largest third is slightly over our 20–45% guide range, so large accounts still have a small edge at the very top.
- Comment weight sensitivity: recalculating with w halved keeps 8 of the city top 10; with w at 1.5× it keeps 9. First place does not change in any variant.
8. Special award: The Quiet Climb
The Quiet Climb is a separate city-wide prize. It sits outside the score and does not change any place in a top 10. It rewards an account whose steady engagement rate rose in the second half of the window compared with the first, without giveaways and without leaning on a viral tail.
- Pool. Every ranked account in the city with at least 1,000 followers and no giveaway-heavy or authenticity flag.
- Two halves. The 90-day window is split into an early half and a late half.
- Clean engagement. In each half only non-giveaway posts count, and the top 10% of posts by engagement are dropped. Then the same formula as in the main score applies: ER = 0.5 × median + 0.5 × P25, with P25 also tracked on its own.
- Enough posts. At least six qualifying posts in each half.
- Not from zero. ER of at least 0.25% in the early half and 0.40% in the late half, so that growth from almost no likes does not count.
- Real growth. Late ER at least 1.15 times early ER, and late P25 not below early P25.
- Winner. Among those that qualify: the highest late ER, then the highest growth factor.
Growth has to show on the floor of the feed and not only on the median, otherwise two hits could carry it. Giveaways and the top tenth are left out for the same reason: without that rule the prize would go to a contest or a single Reel. The six-posts-per-half rule is strict on purpose. Most accounts do not post that often, and only 24 in the whole city reached the final check. That is a filter for "there is a trajectory", not a gap in the sample.
What this ranking does not say
- It is not a rating of food, service or price. A superb restaurant that rarely posts will rank low, because this measures Instagram and nothing else.
- It does not predict sales from Instagram.
- It does not read comments. Only the count is available, so a real conversation and a row of emojis look the same, which is why bait posts are removed by caption and ratio.
- It does not see reach, saves or shares. Those live in each venue's own Meta Insights. A second pass using saves and shares on typical posts for the 20 strongest accounts per zone is part of the design, but it was not run for this edition; the published order comes from the first, full-field pass.
- It only finds an Instagram that the venue links from its own website. A venue with an unlinked account is missing, and in a few cases a venue's site links a parent brand's account (a hotel chain, a sports centre), which is then what gets measured.
- It catches only crude manipulation. It is not a full audit of fake followers.
How to check our work
- Sample. Is every venue in a zone with a linked Instagram in the starting list? Was the list frozen before scoring?
- Window. One cut-off date for everyone: 4 October 2026.
- Recalculate. Take two accounts from the top and two from the bottom of a table and rebuild their medians in a spreadsheet.
- Size. Check that score and follower count do not move together.
- Robustness. Remove the winner's single best post. It should still be in the top 10.
- Falsifiability. If the venues with the best guest experience in a district sit at the bottom only because they post rarely, then this measures Instagram hygiene and not the quality of the place. We say so openly: that is exactly its scope.
If you run one of the accounts and think your number is wrong, write to team@promobeez.com and we will send the per-post calculation.
FAQ
Which restaurant has the best social media in Helsinki in Q3 2026?
Friends & Brgrs (@friendsandbrgrs) has the highest score in the Helsinki Restaurant Social Media Awards Q3 2026, which are measured on Instagram: 92.2 out of 100. It is followed by Savoy (91.2), Villa Severino (90.5), Restaurant Elite (89.1) and Ravintola Palace (86.3). The ranking covers 251 qualified accounts and measures results (audience response relative to account size, 80%) and the stability of the feed (20%) over the 90 days to 4 October 2026.
What is the Quiet Climb award?
The Quiet Climb is the special award of the Helsinki Restaurant Social Media Awards Q3 2026 for the account whose engagement grew the most within the 90-day window without giveaways or a single viral post. The Q3 2026 winner is Ekeko Restobar (@ekeko_restobar) in Sörnäinen: its steady engagement rate rose from 0.91% to 3.72%, a factor of 4.1, and its weaker posts improved as well.
Why are the awards based on Instagram only?
Instagram is the social network most Helsinki restaurants use: 521 of 1,114 venues (46.8%) link it from their website, against 478 for Facebook, 112 for TikTok, 56 for LinkedIn and 33 for YouTube. Of the venues that link any social network, 86% link Instagram. It also shows comparable public numbers for every post, so all accounts can be measured the same way.
How can a restaurant enter the awards?
It cannot, and that is the point. Every Helsinki restaurant and cafe found on Google Maps whose website links to a public Instagram account is included automatically. There is no entry form, no fee, no jury and no public vote. A venue also cannot opt out of being measured, because only public data is used.
What is a good Instagram engagement rate for a restaurant in Helsinki?
Among 251 ranked Helsinki restaurant accounts the typical post reaches 0.70% of followers for photos and carousels and 1.04% for Reels, using a comment-weighted engagement rate. Accounts with 1,000 to 2,500 followers typically see 0.92% on photos and 1.47% on Reels; accounts with 5,000 to 10,000 followers see 0.49% and 0.62%.
Why does follower count not decide the ranking?
Followers can be bought or accumulated years ago, and larger accounts always show lower engagement rates. The score therefore compares each account's engagement with what is normal for its size in Helsinki. Across the city the correlation between score and follower count is 0.05, and the four winners range from 1,523 to 19,208 followers.
How many Helsinki restaurants are on Instagram?
Of 1,114 restaurants and cafes in the study, 521 (46.8%) link an Instagram account from their own website. The share is 62% in South & Central Helsinki and only 23% in East Helsinki. 478 venues (42.9%) link a Facebook page and 112 (10%) link TikTok.
Do giveaways help a restaurant win?
No. Posts that look like giveaways or comment bait are removed from the engagement calculation, and an account where more than a quarter of posts are of that kind has its score capped at 50. 64% of ranked accounts ran at least one such post in 90 days; 27 hit the cap.
How often is the ranking updated?
This is the first edition and it covers the third quarter of 2026: the 90 days up to the data cut-off on 4 October 2026. The plan is to repeat it every quarter. The method is fixed in advance and published in full, so the next quarter can be compared with this one.
